About Reine
I’m a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Lakewood. My education includes a Bachelor’s degree from Yale University, a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Colorado, and a psychology doctorate in 2009 from the University of Denver. I currently serve as board chair for the Colorado Psychological Association (CPA) Society for the Advancement of Multiculturalism and Diversity and the American Psychological Association (APA) local Diversity Representative.
I am originally from the Northeast and moved with my husband to Colorado more than thirty years ago and consider Colorado home. I have worked professionally in counseling and psychology for over twenty years. I first practiced as a therapist for an organization treating women victims of domestic violence which later included treating victims traumatized by random violence. My formal doctoral training has afforded me the privilege of working in many settings including with individuals under hospice care as they made end of life decisions and to counsel friends and family member grieving their loss. During my pre-doctoral internship at Aurora Mental Health Center, I worked with individuals challenged by severe mental illness who found it difficult to maintain family connections and effectively function in a work environment. Conducting therapy with senior adults challenged by cognitive decline, chronic pain, and social isolation has enabled me to develop many skills essential to helping individuals maintain as much independence as possible while assisting family members in finding the best way to support aging loved ones. As an advocate for social justice throughout my career, I have worked to bring about equality for many who have been marginalized and victimized. I am wholly committed to providing a safe supportive space for individuals searching for more effective ways not only to cope with the challenges they are facing, but also to gain the skills needed to better manage future challenges in a way that supports their values and brings greater satisfaction and fulfillment to their life.
My therapeutic approach integrates many treatment methods tailored to each individual’s unique set of challenges. My primary therapy approach using evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral techniques and mindful awareness work well to help identify and eliminate negative thoughts to transform the energy of negative emotions into positive actions. My ability to create a compassionate welcoming environment free of judgments, encourages individuals to feel safe and open to discuss issues that are at the core of what is most troubling in their lives. The therapeutic relationship is the single most important aspect to working well together and the trust that develops in this relationship is what will allow you and me to move in a direction that brings you closer to a more valued and meaningful life.
